SUNY JCC Foundation Honors John D. Hamilton Award Recipient At Annual Gala

ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. –  The SUNY Jamestown Community College Foundation honored John Whelpley as its 2022 John D. Hamilton Award recipient at its annual awards gala held Nov. 9 at Holiday Valley’s Yodeler Lodge.

The Hamilton Award was established in 1995 to recognize individuals whose contributions exemplify those of Hamilton, a past president and trustee emeritus of JCC.

SUNY JCC Alumni Association Honors 9 Graduates at Annual Awards Gala

ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. –  The SUNY Jamestown Community College Alumni Association honored nine graduates during the JCC Foundation’s annual awards gala held Nov. 9 at Holiday Valley’s Yodeler Lodge.

Colin Kremer, Jonathan O’Brian, and Rick Whitney were recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award. The award is the association's highest honor and is given to those who have typified the college's tradition of excellence and brought ​credit to the college through personal accomplishment, professional achievement, or humanitarian service.

Area Veterans Share Military Experiences During Panel Discussion at SUNY JCC

OLEAN, N.Y. – New to the United States Army, Martin McCall was stationed in a demilitarized zone on the North Korean and South Korean border. He was 19 years old and stressed.

The general came in during McCall’s first briefing and expressed fear that the platoon would be under attack soon.

McCall made it through that day and for the next 21 years of his active duty career, retiring as a sergeant first class following a stint as station commander and recruiter in Olean.

SUNY JCC Hosting Veterans Day Panel Discussion With Olean’s African American Center for Cultural Development

OLEAN, N.Y. – SUNY Jamestown Community College is hosting military panel discussions titled “My Service Experience: A Sharing from Three Local Veterans in Honor of Veterans Day” on Nov. 10.

Sponsored by Olean’s African American Center for Cultural Development, the events are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in Cutco Theater on JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus. They are free and open to the public.

SUNY JCC Hosting Stand Down For Veterans On Jamestown Campus

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – A Stand Down to support community military veterans is set for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 17 at SUNY Jamestown Community College.

The one-day event in the Hamilton Collegiate Center Student Union features a free lunch paired with a gathering of service providers and vendors offering resources, surplus, food, and other giveaways to western New York veterans who attend.

SUNY JCC Uncommoners to Present “Heathers The Musical” In November

A darkly-delicious tale will unfold in November at The Robert Lee Scharmann Theatre located on SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Jamestown Campus. 

The JCC Uncommoners will present “Heathers The Musical” at 7 p.m. Nov. 4, 5, 11, and 12, with a 2 p.m. show on Nov. 6 and 13. Tickets are available online at patrik-antonius.net/uncommoners. 

Adam Owens, Scharmann Theatre manager, is directing the performance, which is based on the 1989 cult-classic film of the same name.
